Phil's Barbershop Comes to Bell Arts Factory, Janet Addison Community Room An installation of Phil Marquez' historic barbershop brings with it a treasure trove of Ventura history and memorabilia. Presented in conjunction with "Phil Marquez Day" happening the next day at Bell Arts, the installation celebrates the beloved barber's sixty-two years of collecting the intimate and arcane of Ventura, whether they be stories, pictures or objects. Come be a part of Ventura history! ________________________________________________________________________________ Vintage Views of Ventura - Special Focus on the Year 1915 - Janet Addison Community Room A small group of rare views of Ventura County will be on exhibit in conjunction with the Phil Marquez event from the collection of art consultant Anca Colbert. Dating back to the 1910s and 1930s, now restored and rendered as fully Archival Art Giclées, they allow a glimpse of familiar places as documented long ago (The Court House, The Ventura Hotel, the Orange Groves, the Oil Fields etc). A special Silent Auction Giclée Vintage View to benefit Bell Arts Factory: "A Bird's Eye View of Ventura, Cal. from the Hill" (seen above). Inspired and derived from a vintage lithographic tinted view by J.R. Brakey, it was published as a commemorative card in 1915- the year that Phil Marquez was born in Ventura, California. ________________________________________________________________________________ IMPACT/EXPRESSION ~ Tool Room Gallery MB Hanrahan, Josh Addison and sTeVe Knauff have teamed up to create a hands-on interactive installation where all are invited to scratch, scribble, scrawl or draw how Bell Arts has impacted you and your community or your hopes for its future. These statements then become instantly integrated into the installation. "Impact/Expression" is part of a larger process underway to examine and evaluate Bell Arts Factory first five years of existence while designing and planning its future. "It is crucial that we engage the community in our vision process, " says Founder and Board President, Josh Addison, "they are at the heart of what we do here." ________________________________________________________________________________ Valori Fussell ~ Vita Art Center The work of Valori Fussell is described as intense, alive and authentic. "I know I am in an authentic place when I feel connected to what I am making and my heart responds to the work. The sensation of this connection fills me with purpose and excitement. And even though there is clearly a controlled hand in my painting and drawing there is also the inner guide which creates (and keeps) the "happy accident". ________________________________________________________________________________

ART PARTY with Jeanne La Rocco in Vita
Saturday, March 27, 6-9 p.m.
Vita Art Center's Art Party's - Food, Wine, Art, and fun! Saturday, March 27 we will be making pocket Shrines with Jeanne LaRocco Personal shrines are a way to acknowledge and affirm the sacred in our lives. Shrines hold the power to make us forget our everyday cares and to help center us. This power exists because shrines emerge from the deepest part of those who build them. As we mindfully collect the materials and images to make a shrine, as we paint and glue, insights arise. Assembling a shrine is an act of love. It can also be a prayer. Because they are an expression of the spirit, shrines both move us and serve as bridges that connect us to mysteries greater than ourselves. These tiny pocket shrines, inspired by artists of Mexico, are a powerful symbol of the many blessings we take for granted. Although shrines traditionally honor the dead, they can be created to honor anyone who is a source of inspiration and admiration. They can be created as an affirmation to attract peace love, prosperity, happiness, or anything else you wish to bring into your life. So many possibilities to explore!

Ms. Killian is now the Executive Director of her own non-profit organization, the Action Committee for Women in Prison (ACWIP).
